Yes. 53:4 Tetapi sesungguhnya, penyakit kitalah yang ditanggungnya, dan kesengsaraan kita yang dipikulnya, padahal kita mengira dia kena tulah, dipukul dan ditindas Allah.
Kristus “dihina dan ditolak manusia; seorang Manusia yang menderita, dan mengenal kesedihan: dan kita menyembunyikan seolah-olah wajah kita dariNya; Dia dihina, dan kita tidak menghargaiNya. Sesungguhnya Dia telah menanggung kesedihan kita, dan memikul kesedihan kita: namun kita benar-benar menghargai Dia yang terpukul, terpukul oleh Tuhan, dan menderita. Tetapi Dia terluka karena pelanggaran kita, Dia terluka karena kesalahan kita: hukuman kedamaian kita ada padaNya, dan dengan bilur-bilurNya kita disembuhkan ”(Yesaya 53: 3-5). {1SM 349.1}
Kasih karunia Kristus dan hukum Allah tidak dapat dipisahkan. Di dalam Yesus, belas kasihan dan kebenaran bertemu bersama, kebenaran dan kedamaian telah saling mencium. Dalam kehidupan dan karakter-Nya, Dia tidak hanya mengungkapkan karakter Tuhan, tetapi kemungkinan manusia.
Dia adalah wakil Allah dan teladan kemanusiaan. Dia mempresentasikan kepada dunia akan menjadi apa umat manusia ketika dipersatukan oleh iman dengan keilahian.
Anak Tunggal Allah mengambil ke atas diri-Nya kodrat manusia, dan menegakkan salib-Nya antara bumi dan surga. Melalui salib, manusia ditarik kepada Allah, dan Allah kepada manusia.
Keadilan bergerak dari posisinya yang tinggi dan mengerikan, dan bala tentara surgawi, bala tentara kesucian, mendekat ke salib, membungkuk dengan hormat; karena di kayu salib keadilan dipuaskan.
Melalui salib orang berdosa ditarik dari benteng dosa, dari konfederasi kejahatan, dan pada setiap pendekatan ke salib hatinya mengalah dan dalam penyesalan dia berseru, "Adalah dosa-dosaku yang menyalibkan Anak Allah."
Di kayu salib ia meninggalkan dosa-dosanya, dan melalui kasih karunia Kristus karakternya diubah.
Penebus mengangkat orang berdosa dari debu, dan menempatkan dia di bawah bimbingan Roh Kudus.
Saat orang berdosa memandang Penebus, dia menemukan harapan, kepastian, dan sukacita. Iman menguasai Kristus dalam kasih. Iman bekerja karena cinta, dan memurnikan jiwa. {1SM 349,2}
Christ was “despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:3-5). {1SM 349.1}
The grace of Christ and the law of God are inseparable. In Jesus mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other. In His life and character He not only reveals the character of God, but the possibility of man. He was the representative of God and the exemplar of humanity. He presented to the world what humanity might become when united by faith with divinity. The only-begotten Son of God took upon Him the nature of man, and established His cross between earth and heaven. Through the cross, man was drawn to God, and God to man. Justice moved from its high and awful position, and the heavenly hosts, the armies of holiness, drew near to the cross, bowing with reverence; for at the cross justice was satisfied. Through the cross the sinner was drawn from the stronghold of sin, from the confederacy of evil, and at every approach to the cross his heart relents and in penitence he cries, “It was my sins that crucified the Son of God.” At the cross he leaves his sins, and through the grace of Christ his character is transformed. The Redeemer raises the sinner from the dust, and places him under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As the sinner looks upon the Redeemer, he finds hope, assurance, and joy. Faith takes hold of Christ in love. Faith works by love, and purifies the soul. {1SM 349.2}
